Board Game
CAREER POWER
Face work situation and win!
Career Power is a board game we made for women in tech. This game is simple: You and your friends are on an important tech project. You have twenty turns to work furiously before the product must be shipped. While UX research, design, and development are happening you and your friends will strive for credits. If you have 100 credits at the end of twenty turns you win.
There are lots of ways to earn credits - by answering questions correctly, drawing opportunity cards, or just by moving around the board. Everyone can win or everyone can lose, it’s up to you to decide whether you take all the credits for yourself or work as a team! Either way, the important thing is just to have fun.

What did I do?
MY ROLE
1. USER RESEARCH
Conducted research interviews to gather detailed information about personal feelings, perceptions and opinions from potential users. Understood the issues and challenges IT women face in the workplace
2. VISUAL DESIGN
Designed the visual materials and all game cards in the game, including role cards, business cards, event cards, and scenario cards.
3. USABILITY TEST
Conducted several rounds of usability tests to find the design issues. Translated feedback gathered from participants to design suggestions. Redesign the game base on feedback and came out with the final deliverables.
4. GAME MECHANICS DESIGN
Helped to define game mechanics such as promotion rules, game characters, and winning conditions for players to interact with the game state.
How we came up with the ideas?
DESIGN PROCESS
SKETCH GAME IDEA ON PAPER
We designed the game in three rounds. On December 2016, we came out this game idea during one of our visioning sessions. At the beginning, the game mechanics were not clear enough. In order to create full game details, we sketched all of our game ideas on paper and evaluate them by using plus and minus method. After several iterations, we finally made this board game with paper.

How to play?
THE RULES
STARTING OUT
Each player begins as an Intern on the Start square. Roll the dice, the highest rolling player goes first. The lowest rolling player gets to set which way the Spinner arrows begin.
PROMOTIONS
Each time you go around the board and pass Start or land on a Promotion space increase your promotion level by one unless you are already a CEO. The levels go Intern->Team Member->Manager->CEO
DEMOTIONS
Each time you land on a Demotion Space or draw a demotion card decrease your promotion level by one unless you are already an intern. The levels go CEO->Manager->Team Member->Intern
SCENARIO SPACES
If you land on a Team Scenario Space or Solo Scenario Space draw a question card from the pile. Follow the directions on the card. There are several types of questions. Solo scenarios usually grant credits just to the player who drew them. Team scenarios usually grant credits to all players involved.
EVENT CARDS
When you land on the Event Spaces draw an Event Card. Do what it says. Event Cards change the rules of the game. The new rule stays in place until a new Event Card is drawn.
BUSINESS CARDS
When you land on a Business Space draw a Business Card. Do what it says. Business Cards apply only to the player who drew them.
WINNING THE GAME
At the end of 20 turns, every player with 100 credits wins!
